"Oh we do like to be beside the seaside" Michelin selection of Restaurants by the Sea
Andrew Pern, whose name is synonymous with his Michelin-starred pub, The Star Inn at Harome, has long wished to open a restaurant in his hometown and to celebrate the ingredients he grew up surrounded by and with which he began to learn to cook, even before he decided to train as a Chef at the former Scarborough Catering College. Opened in June 2017, the restaurant celebrated its first birthday with its first industry award, an AA Rosette.
The Star Inn The Harbour's Menus feature Catch-of-the-Day fish and meat specials and also world famous North Yorkshire Moors produce, such as furred and feathered game, as well as a seasonal All Day Menu. Desserts include some childhood Ice Cream Parlour classics brought up to date. Surf 'n' Turf-style dishes are a restaurant speciality mirroring its 'one-foot-in-the-sea-one-foot-on-the-Moors' location.
Traditional Cod and Haddock are fried in a gluten-free batter, originally developed with our coeliac customers in mind, but it was so good that we have made it our standard. Many of our menu dishes can be adapted to suit a wide range of dietary requirements, especially with advance notice.
The perfect year round Celebration Destination for family birthdays, anniversaries and ‘well done!’s, The Star Inn The Harbour is also ideal for catch-ups with friends and business meetings – or, simply, a re-fuelling traditional fish and chip lunch after a bracing seaside walk. We have a number of tables suitable for diners with well-behaved dogs, but advance booking is recommended.
Situated on the harbourside close to a number of carparks and straight opposite the train station, with links to Middlesbrough (via Glaisdale, Danby and Great Ayton et al) on the Esk Valley Railway and Pickering via the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, it’s also a great meeting up place. Check the Esk Valley Railway website for the current timetable.
